The Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) expresses its deepest sympathy to Mr. Venesh Kumar of Etatoka, Ba (Rarawai Sector, Farm No. 1412) following the devastating house fire that destroyed his family home on 27th June 2026.
Mr. Kumar is a valued sugarcane grower and customer of SCGF. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and loved ones as they recover from this tragic loss.
“SCGF is pleased to announce that, through its partnership with Sun Insurance, Mr. Kumar’s house fire insurance claim has been successfully processed. Under the policy, a settlement of $29,750.00 has been approved, based on the insured sum of $30,000.00, less the applicable administration cost of $250.00.” said Mr. Sagar Dayal – Manager Lending & Operations.

The prompt settlement provides much-needed financial assistance enabling the family to begin rebuilding their home and restoring their lives.

Commenting on the claim, Mr. Dayal said the settlement demonstrates the importance of insurance in protecting growers and their families from unexpected disasters.

“No amount of money can replace the memories and personal belongings lost in a house fire. However, timely insurance assistance can ease the financial burden and help families begin rebuilding with dignity and hope. This successful claim reinforces the value of ensuring our growers are adequately protected against unforeseen events.” said Mr. Dayal.

SCGF’s House Insurance Scheme, offered in partnership with Sun Insurance, provides affordable protection for growers with the following options:
 $20,000 House Insurance Cover – Annual Premium: $140.25
 $30,000 House Insurance Cover – Annual Premium: $168.75

The policy provides protection against:
 Fire
 Earthquake
 Tsunami
 Volcanic eruption
 Lightning

In addition, policyholders are entitled to the following benefits:
 Death Benefit: $2,000 for the insured person where death occurs within the insured premises.
 Funeral Benefit: $1,000 after three consecutive years of continuous policy coverage.

This partnership has been established with Sun Insurance after months of negotiations last year and so far 67 growers have obtained insurance policies.
