Today, Hon. Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment – Dr. Mahendra Reddy was the chief guest at our Sugar Cane Growers Fund office where he officially launched the Online Portal for Expression of Interest for the sugar cane growers in Viti Levu who wish to diversify into ginger farming to supplement their income. This is made possible with Business Link Pacific (BLP) Concessional Loans program implemented by DT Global being Managing Contractor of the Pacific SME Finance Facility on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) under a New Zealand Government International aid and development. The loans could be $5000 but range up to $70,000 subject to meeting the guidelines. However, the intention is to spread to around to 120 growers from Sigatoka to Rakiraki. We acknowledge the support and contributions of Business Link Pacific, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Sugar and Reserve Bank of Fiji for this initiative. Ministry of Agriculture will provide guidance, support and expertise to the growers and they have provided the list of suitable areas. Today with the launch of online portal – growers have to express interest from today – 10th March 2022 to 31st March 2022. By 30th April 2022, SCGF and Ministry of Agriculture will assess the Interest and revert to successful applicants on or before 30th April 2022. Thereafter grower’s loans will be formalized. We are also encouraging our women growers to apply and as we celebrate International Women’s Day this week – first three women growers will also receive free water tanks.
