New Chair For Sugar Cane Growers Fund

The Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Industry Voreqe Bainimarama has appointed Uday Sen as the chairman of Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF).

This is effective from January 19, 2020 for two years in accordance and pursuant with the amendment of the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (Amendment) Act 2015.

The Prime Minister commended Mr Sen for his efforts and contributions since his appointment as board member since January 2019.

Contribution to the sugar industry

The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Sugar Industry, Yogesh Karan said that Mr Sen brings.

Wealth of experience and commercial acumen as a lender, shrewd businessman who comes from a sugar cane farming background.

His expertise and knowledge would assist in transformation of the fund and the industry as a whole.

Mr Karan also thanked the outgoing chairman Ariff Ali and director Pradeep Lal for putting the right platform, which included the appointment of the chief executive officer, acquiring a new ICT system, implementation of various policies and processes.

Chairmanship

Mr Karan said given their demanding responsibilities, they had requested that others be given the opportunity and hence “we respectfully noted their decisions.”

Mr Sen thanked the Prime Minister and Mr Karan for having confidence in him for the chairmanship of such a prestigious institution which is the trust fund of the sugar cane growers.

He looks forward with the Board, Management, Staff and industry stakeholders to take Sugar Cane Growers Fund to new heights.

About Uday Sen

Mr Sen is managing director, City Cars and Equipment.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Accounting and Information Systems from USP; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Banking from USP; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Accounting from USP and a Master of Commerce Degree in Accounting from USP.

He is a Member of Fiji Chartered Accountants, a fellow member of CPA Australia and a fellow of CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).

He has worked at executive level in the corporate sector for over 10 years
