Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) on the advice of the Hon Minister for Multi Ethic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon Charan Jeath Singh has deferred the loan repayment in the final cane payment.
SCGF received a total payment of $4.173m and paid all the payments back to growers’ accounts in the banks. These payments are supposed to be in the bank on Friday afternoon or latest Monday.
Mr Raj Sharma, Chief Executive Officer acknowledged the support of the Government and Hon Minister for the historic payment. He said as a special case, those growers who were in arrears also have been refunded so that funds are used back on the farms, after consulting the Minister.
He also emphasized that these payments due will be deducted together with necessary payments in the next cane payment end of the year or in January 2024. He had requested farmers to use the funds wisely and in case they do not need it, they could always pay back in repayment.
The whole objective of the deferment is to make the best use of completing the harvest. Meanwhile, he has requested all the growers indebted to SCGF to make every effort to harvest the cane, especially those in the Northern Division.
