The Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) is proud to announce the launch of its Cyclone Preparedness and Green Energy loan Promotion. This initiative aims to help cane farmers in Fiji prepare for cyclones and adopt green energy solutions.
The cyclone period in Fiji is mainly from November to April. With the previous tropical cyclones- Winston, Yasa and Anna we have experienced that the most effected regions are Western and Northern and the cane farming community has been vulnerable to devastating damage to crops and houses. Therefore, it becomes crucial to assist the farmers to strengthen their dwelling and infrastructure through Cyclone preparedness loan. This loan facility will enable farmers to repair and strengthen their dwelling against severe cyclone. We also note that there are prolonged power outage and we encourage farmers to purchase Solar set-up. As part of Climate Action Plan United Nations, SDG Goal 13, SCGF is obliged to assist farmer in evolving climatic issue.
The promotion allows loan up to $20,000 with 6% interest rate per annum. The promotion starts from 15 November 2024 and will run until 31 May 2025. There will be four $250.00 cash giveaway drawn on 13 June 2025.
During our last promotion 479 growers obtained loans of $2,130,651.03, and we anticipate that this season will see comparable numbers.
Since now the crushing season is almost over SCGF encourages all the cane farmers to take advantage of this promotion to fix their dwellings and adopt green energy solutions, ensuring their homes and farms are better prepared for cyclones.
